Course Descriptions

Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV/Six Pack) License

This course meets the Coast Guard requirement that certain individuals must successfully complete to obtain an OUPV License.  If you satisfactorily complete this course you will be issued a certificate to present to the Coast Guard.  This certificate satisfies the examination portion of the Coast Guard requirements for an OUPV license.  The Coast Guard has other requirements that you will have to submit prior to receiving your license; such as a physical exam, at least 360 days experience on the water, etc.  OUPV is commonly called a six-pack or charter captain’s license.  This Coast Guard license is required by those operating uninspected vessels that carry no more than six passengers for hire.

This course meets the US Coast Guard requirements to issue a 100 Gross Ton Master’s License.  This license is required by those operating inspected vessels of 100 GT or less.  Upon completion of our course you will receive a HRMTC at TCC certificate to present to the Coast Guard along with the other requirements to obtain your license.

This course meets Coast Guard requirements to obtain a towing endorsement on your license.  It is a one-day (6-hour) course that is offered periodically throughout the year. Subjects include: towing safety, forces in towing, towing equipment and hazards along with standard towing procedures.

Cold Water Survival 

This course provides a practical introduction to the effects of cold water immersion on the human body and the realities of hypothermia. Misconceptions and myths surrounding the effects of cold water can lead to inappropriate responses by the general public and rescuers alike.  Course attendees will learn the truth about cold water and the realities of surviving an accidental cold water immersion. Students will also learn advanced techniques and procedures for rescue and recovery of hypothermic victims of accidental cold water immersion.

Weekend Warrior Seamanship

This course is for new and seasoned recreational boaters alike. Topics will include; Rules of the Road, boat operation, navigating waterways, anchoring, close quarter handling, boating etiquette, basic knots & line handling and safe boating practices. Parts of this class will use the Maritime Simulator for hands on real time learning.

Basic Radar (Recreational Cruiser)

This two session course is for new and seasoned recreational boaters alike. Topics will include using radar for navigation and collision avoidance, learning to interpret the display, adjusting the controls to match weather conditions and using the full tools and latest features of your radar. It will also discuss how best to use your GPS, AIS technology and radio features.

Radar Observer Courses (Basic Radar-Domestic)

This course meet the Coast Guard requirement that certain individuals must successfully complete a Coast Guard approved radar observer training course in order to receive an endorsement as Radar Observer. Upon successful completion of our course you will be issued a certificate which you simply present to the Coast Guard who will then place a radar observer endorsement on your license. We offer day classes.

Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS)

This ECDIS training course provides students with knowledge of the ECDIS as a system, the ECDIS operation, electronic chart materials and practical navigation by using ECDIS. In addition, the training course includes terms and conditions for paperless navigation.

The course provides the navigator with the knowledge and tools to safely shift from traditional paper chart navigation to electronic chart navigation by the use of ECDIS. The training course not only focuses on the many advantages and safety features obtained by operating an ECDIS. Also, the limitations of ECDIS are addressed throughout the course. Meets STCW requirements

Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA)

This 5-day course is STCW approved and teaches the basics of ARPA including the principle types of ARPA systems, the possible risks of over-reliance on ARPA and setting up and maintaining ARPA displays. The curriculum consists of classroom instruction, ARPA manufacturer instructional videotapes and student hands on training on both our Raytheon RAYCAS V and Racal-Decca 1690 ARPA's. This course also qualifies you to renew your radar observer endorsement.
